Chocolate Waffles

Wake up in the morning. Open the fridge. Leftovers. Bread. Condiments. No energy to throw anything together. This explains my every morning. So I am very greateful when I open up the freezer because I always have frozen homemade waffled ready to pop in the toaster oven. This is a twist on your traditional, blueberry, or even chocolate chip waffles. These are actually chocolate waffles served with chocolate syrup.


Chocolate Waffles


Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 tbsp applesauce or canola oil
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup chocolate syrup
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Cooking spray
  • Powdered sugar and or berries for topping

Combine butter and applesauce in a small bowl. Combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in large bowl.

Whisk eggs, milk, chocolate syrup, and vanilla in a large measuring cup or bowl. Whisk th egg mixture into the flour until combined.

Preheat waffle maker. Spray with cooking spray, and then ladle 1/2 cup of the batter at a time, cooking until crisp.

Dust with confectioners sugar is serving immediately, or let cool and then freeze for future consumption.
