Lasagna is for Lovers

My mom has been serving my family this lasagna for years, and when I was old enough to reach the stove, I took on the duty of creating this incredible Italian dish. I have put many twists on it over the years, but it always seems to come out best when you stick to the basics. I always like to use hot sausage to add a little extra flavor and "kick" to the dish.

Traditional Lasagna

Ingredients:

1 lb. ground beef
1/2 lb. sausage
12 oz. can tomato paste
28 oz. can diced tomatoes
2 tsp. garlic salt
1 1/2 tsp. oregano
1 tsp. basil
1/2 box of lasagna noodles, cooked
2 cups cottage cheese
1 cup parmesan cheese, grated
12 oz. mozzarella cheese

Brown meats over medium heat in saute pan, drain off fat.

Add paste, tomatoes, garlic salt, oregano, and basil. Simmer for 20 minutes.

Combine cottage cheese and 1/2 cup parmesan.

Grease 9x13 pan, layer noodles to cover bottom, add 1/3 meat sauce, 1/2 cup mozzarella, and then 1/2 cottage cheese mixture. Repeat. End final layer with noodles and meat sauce. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup parmesan and mozzarella.

Cover with aluminum foil and back at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Remove foil, continue baking for 15 minutes. Let rest for 10 minutes. Serve.
