Blackberry Applesauce

I have always loved applesauce. Chocked full of cinnamon, it was always a favorite treat of mine. But  I have always bought the store jarred kind. Until now. If I had known how easy it was to make applesauce at home, I would have never done it any other way. Plus, it's apple season, and there is truly an abundance. This recipe is so versatile, and you can really make it your own. Try making plain applesauce, or mixing in other fruits to your liking.

Blackeberry Applesauce

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 lbs. ripe apples of your choice
  • 1 cup blackberries
  • 1 tsp. trucia sugar substitute
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
Core apples and cut into quarters or smaller. Place in a large pot and fill with one inch of water. Cover and brong to a boil for 15-20 minutes, until applesd are softened. Meanwhile, cook the blackberries over medium heat in a small pan until soft, about 5 minutes.

Once the apples and blackberries have cooked, place in a food mill and process over a large bowl until all that is left inside of the food mill is the seeds and skin. Let the apple and blackberry sauce cool to reoom temperature before covering in an airtight container and storing in the fridge.

If you don't have a rice mill, seed and peel the skin off of your apples before boiling, then mash with a hand masher once they are softened.
